Sapillo Creek Escape is approximately 30 minutes from the privately owned hot springs near the Gila Cliff Dwellings. Or, go on an adventure and hike to the hot springs within the National Monument itself. Lightfeather Hot Springs is a 20 minute walk (with two river crossings) from the Gila Cliff Visitor Center. Located two hours from our home is the town of Truth or Consequences, which sits on the Rio Grande where hot thermal water flows out of a rift along the river that appeared more than 50 million years ago. The waters of the hot springs have temperatures ranging from 98 to 115 degrees, with trace elements of 38 different minerals. Many of the hot springs and spas in Truth or Consequences are open to day visitors, who pay by the half-hour for use of the hot springs.
